The purpose of Allied Cloud Services (ACS) is to eliminate common failure points and bulky onsite hardware in favor of edge technology that couples the forecourt controller with IoT technology.

ACS is divided into two components:

1. Allied Portable Controller (APC)
2. Allied Serial Appliance (ASA)

The APC eliminates the need for physical hardware and can run as an application on a virtual machine either locally or in the cloud. If a failure occurs, another instance of the APC can be launched at the software level. This decreases site downtime and provides an immediate “backup” solution without having to swap out hardware.

The ASA is a powerful device with a significantly smaller form factor than the typical forecourt controller. The ASA is used to connect serial devices such as fuel dispensers, in-dispenser card readers, car wash controllers, tank gauges, and electronic price signs to the APC. The low cost allows a location to keep more than one ASA on hand to either serve as a “backup” ASA or split the serial fuel dispensers across two ASAs, ensuring that a portion of the fueling points remain online in the event one ASA has a catastrophic failure.
